Description
What this module is
This is the lockout/tagout module in Humulo’s OSHA library. The trainee plays an authorized employee taking a machine down for maintenance and has to do it in order: notify the supervisor and get permission, work out where the isolation boundary actually is, read the boundary diagram, pick and document the correct tags, apply locks to every energy source, and verify zero energy before touching anything. About 15 minutes per run.

Why the boundary step is the one that matters
Most LOTO incidents are not failures to hang a lock. They are failures to find the second energy source — a stored-pressure accumulator, a capacitor, a gravity load, a second feed nobody documented. This module makes the trainee draw the boundary from the diagram before they are allowed to apply anything, and it will let them proceed with an incomplete isolation so they discover the consequence in the headset instead of on the floor. That is a hard thing to teach from a procedure binder.
How this maps to OSHA 1910.147(c)(7), and where it stops
29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7)(i) sets three training populations: authorized employees, who need to know the energy types and magnitudes and the methods for isolating them; affected employees, who need to understand the purpose and use of the procedure; and all other employees working nearby, who need to know not to restart a locked-out machine. Retraining is required under (c)(7)(iii) when jobs or machines change, when the procedure changes, or when an inspection turns up a deviation.
The honest limit: 1910.147(c)(4) requires machine-specific energy control procedures for your equipment, and no off-the-shelf module — from any vendor — contains your procedures. This trains the method and the discipline. Your written procedures, your periodic inspection under (c)(6), and your authorized-employee certification still belong to you.
Related OSHA answers
The annual obligation in the lockout/tagout standard is not training. It is the periodic inspection of each energy control procedure: how often must employers review energy control procedures? Retraining under (c)(7)(iii) has no interval and is triggered by changes and by what the inspection finds.
Licensing and price
This module is not priced on its own. It comes with every Humulo headset along with the whole library, and every trainee gets their own seat at no extra cost. Most VR training vendors will not publish a number without a sales call. Humulo’s are on the site, and they are the same numbers quoted to a two-person shop and to a Fortune 100 plant.

Frequently asked questions
Does this satisfy OSHA lockout/tagout training requirements?
It supports them. 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7) requires training for authorized, affected and other employees, and retraining when procedures or equipment change. This module trains the authorized-employee energy-control sequence and records completion. It does not replace the machine-specific written energy control procedures required by 1910.147(c)(4) or the annual periodic inspection under (c)(6).
How long does the LOTO module take?
15+ minutes per run. Because it is short, it works well as an annual refresher and as a pre-shift reset for maintenance crews rather than a once-at-hire event.
What does VR lockout/tagout training cost?
There is no per-trainee fee: every trainee gets their own seat with the full library at no extra cost. Headsets are $2,349 year one, $750 per headset per year after. A refundable one-headset 30-day pilot is $3,499.
Can it be customized to our machines?
The off-the-shelf module teaches the general method. Machine-specific procedures are a custom development project, which Humulo does separately — that is the honest answer, and it is the same for every vendor selling a stock LOTO module.

OVERVIEW
Trainees begin determining that the diesel generator is malfunctioning and needs repairs. Trainees must inform the supervisor of the required work, and verify the proper boundaries to isolate high energy systems. They will then collect the appropriate locks and tags, including signing and dating the required tags. Trainees then must isolate the high energy systems, and tag them out appropriately. Once the maintenance is complete trainees notify the supervisor and obtain permission to restart the diesel generator. With the permission of the supervisor trainees remove the locks and tag, and reset the high energy systems. Finally, once all tags are removed and the systems are reset the trainees restart the diesel generator.
